Progress for Big Data in Kubernetes (https://www.oreilly.com/ideas/progress-for-big-data-in-kubernetes)
Ted Dunning, MapR
Kubernetes is really cool because managing services as flocks of little containers is a really cool way to make computing happen. As it becomes possible to support this kind of performance entirely within Kubernetes, we are going to see enormous benefits, such as the ability to simultaneously run multiple versions of big data tool sets like Spark that interface transparently to machine learning systems like TensorFlow or H2O.
Building Distributed Systems with Kubernetes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0003git96g)
Erik St. Martin, Microsoft
Kubernetes has taken the container orchestration space by storm, but it can also be used to create higher-level application abstractions that allow you to build your own distributed systems from scratch. We’ll take a look at some of the patterns and tools available for creating these abstractions using Kubernetes, including Custom Resource Definitions and the Operator pattern. Learn how CRDs and the Operator pattern work, and how to create your own application abstractions using these techniques.
