This live stream focuses on the addition of trace-based tests to the OpenTelemetry Demo, which addresses the challenge of maintaining and expanding the demo while ensuring seamless functionality and telemetry integrity. The stream showcases the birth of the idea for this new approach and highlights the issues maintainers faced when merging pull requests. In the past, this often led to breaking both features and telemetry. By shedding light on the encountered obstacles, outcomes, and benefits, it will showcase the journey from using black-box tests to integrating trace-based tests. Ultimately, I will demonstrate how to add new trace-based tests to the OpenTelemetry Demo on top of those already in the testing harness. The goal of the live stream is to showcase the OpenTelemetry community’s ability to comprehensively test the demo and confidently integrate new features.
